They look us in the face with cameras while we&#8217;re tweeting away. They sometimes even understand when we talk back to them. Learn about success stories and untapped potential in physical interactivity that doesn&#8217;t involve touching anything at all.<\/p>\n<p>Designing for touch: People and Context Come First.<br \/>The technology is here. Sort of.<br \/>We change with technology, eventually.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Keyboard:<\/strong><br \/>Once we get used to an interface, we get faster at it (shortcuts).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mouse:<\/strong><br \/>Mouse made it easy to interact with things on the screen. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Devices:<br \/><\/strong>Getting rid of the physical metaphor completely (iphone, pre, droid) touch screens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Games:<br \/><\/strong>Nintendo Wii &#8211; interaction around the entire room.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\"sizes=\"auto, px\" height=\"240\" style=\"margin: 5px; float: right\" width=\"320\" alt=\"\"><strong>Soft Remote:<br \/><\/strong>Twist, squeeze, pull the balls to interact with things. Everyone in the room would have a different remote\/color to interact in a social way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B+O Touchless remote<br \/><\/strong>You don&#8217;t have to physically touch the remote to interact with it. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.engadget.com\/2008\/03\/28\/video-touchless-bando-remote-control-prototype\/\">Video from Engaget<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>TouchTunes (Airduino)<br \/><\/strong>Air guitar device that involves glove-like device to play guitar through the air. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.instructables.com\/id\/How-to-build-an-Air-Guitar-with-Arduino-aka-the-A\/\">Make one yourself<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Playstation 3 Eye<br \/><\/strong>The entire living room is turned into an interface. New Playstation Move similar to the Wii Remote.<\/p>\n<p>Touchless picks up the subtleties of the human body &#8211; physical targets help to sort out the noise.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sony Ericcson Yari<br \/><\/strong>Control the phone with the camera and play games (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=18uWddQZYbg\">iboxing<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Medical Devices<br \/><\/strong>Gestics uses gesture interfaces to compliment the surgical procedure. You can use your free hand to view things closer\/rotate on the screen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Issues:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discoverability<\/li>\n<li>Trust<\/li>\n<li>Responsiveness <\/li>\n<li>Appropriateness (does it make me feel silly?)<\/li>\n<li>Physical Feedback (i can&#8217;t feel the actual interface)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>State of Voice<br \/><\/strong>Goog-411 good response<br \/>Google Voice has some issues.<br \/>Cars can listen soon, ask about places and get directions.
